Emerson Green Collective (EGC) Constitution
Emerson Green Collective celebrated its inaugural meeting as Bee Enthusiasts at Emerson on February 13, 2018.
Mission
The official mission for Emerson Green Collective is: “Emerson Green Collective (EGC) strives to promote an awareness of environmental issues through organizing sustainable practices and impactful education. We foster special interests in environmentalism at Emerson College through focused sub-groups and communities.”
Purpose
- To create an education-based environmental advocacy group on campus.
- To spread a general awareness and knowledge of environmentalism.
- To ally with other organizations on campus and throughout Boston working to create a greener Earth.
- To champion the “Save the Earth” movement on campus.
- To foster the growth of sustainable practices at Emerson College.

The History Of Emerson Green Collective & Sustainability at Emerson

1996
- Earth Emerson is founded to advocate for on-campus recycling
1999
- Plans for Piano Row to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified are established
2001
- Earth Emerson introduces “Blackout Day” to bring awareness to energy consumption
- The first “Weigh the Waste” in the DH
2002
- Emerson commits to the Institutional Recycling Network, expanding the recycling program immensely
2005
- Earth Emerson launches its own website
- Emerson becomes the first MA college to meet all recycling standards
- Emerson begins buying community green energy
2007
- SGA bans purchase of water bottles using funds
- Emerson expands cardboard and bottle recycling
- Emerson signs the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment
2009
- Appliance recycling is added to the other 6 recycling programs on
Emerson’s campus
2010
- The President’s Committee on Sustainability is established
- Recycling is expanded to 11 programs
- Sustainability courses are introduced
2011
- LB is LEED certified
- Cage-free eggs, trayless dining, and composting program start
- ERA Sustainability Advancement Award introduced
- Emerson awarded for college using most green power in Northeast
- First Sustainability Coordinator hired
- American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment renewed
- Emerson sustainability website and socials launch
- Sale of individual Poland Spring bottles on campus banned
2012
- Presidents Committee on Sustainability meets
- Food donation program with Greater Boston Food Bank started
- Emerson’s first Recycle-mania
- Emerson announces the phasing out of bottled water
- Emerson observes first “Earth Hour”
- LA campus is LEED certified
- Admissions & Enrollment announce transition to paperless

- EcoReps Program started

- Emerson Green Collective hosts “Earth Fest”, a series of events, during Earth Week, including “Swap & Shop”
